Daschbosch Gevonden Old Vine Hanepoot, WO Breedekloof (37.5cl) 2020

The Hanepoot grapes for this wine are from timeworn, gnarly vines which bear a meagre yield. The vines are over 120 years old (South Africa only started recording vine age from 1900). Small bunches of concentrated and perfumed Muscat d'Alexandrie fruit are hand harvested and then placed in to fermentation tanks for a few days, after which the juice is fortified with a pure spirit and aged in barrel for 3 years.

This rare, complex and multi-layered dessert wine exudes aromas of honey, orange blossom and fruitcake. The palate has intense flavours of sultanas, ripe candied citrus peel and sweet mandarins.

Pairs with hard, strong cheeses or apricot frangipane.
